posted 06/24/2010 To Soccer Parents from NSA President Paula Manor:
Thank you, parents, for your support to enable your soccer player(s) this awesome summer of soccer… and for your support and contributions to NSA! Please read this note through to the end.
We have a big fundraising kickoff — In House and Traveling — that won’t cost you a penny, but your attention to it will make a huge difference to NSA’s ability to offer great soccer programming.
We are partnering with Splayback.com to feature your family video uploads and action shots so friends and relatives can see your player in action! No matter where they are, down the street or across the world, friends and relatives can follow along and support your child’s soccer activities without having to buy cookies and candy! This is a ‘let’s stay connected’ fundraiser that enables you to display your favorite soccer player’s successes and bloopers for your loved ones to enjoy.
We only need two things from you:
1) E-mail addresses to help us notify your loved ones of the new posts to the website. Don’t worry, there is no solicitation by e-mail and the e-mails are never shared. Friends will receive a notice that you’ve posted a video or photo of your player to the Splayback.com website. Once at the website, they can view the images of your player in action and contribute to the fundraiser. It’s a very simple process —f or you to set up and for loved ones to access — and it will help NSA provide the best services possible to the Community.
Please ask your child for the handout that he/she brought home — a white page with green and black ink — for more details. Go to www.fast.splayback.com where it’s easy to get registered and list the email addresses of friends and relatives. It took me only 5 minutes. Then you’re all set to upload your personal videos and photos!
If you’re not a photographer yourself, we have another option that you may consider. Marie Frederickson at Remember Photography takes action shots on the fields each night. You can find the photo(s) you like of your player at Remember Photography. Scroll down to ‘sport’ then find your child’s team photos. If you decide to purchase an action photo from Marie, she will upload your photo to your team page at Splayback.com for you, or you can do it yourself if you wish. A team photo will also be uploaded to your page at no charge after a team photo session. Again, this is an option for quality photos.
Even if you don’t upload personal photos or videos to Splayback.com, you can still participate fully in the fundraiser because your loved ones can view other videos and photos of your child’s team and other NSA events. Remember, no cookies and candy to sell… it’s much easier! This fundraising effort is every bit as important to NSA and your child’s soccer programming as if you were going door to door, but without the legwork. It’s a wonderful way to keep friends and relatives in the loop of your child’s activity.
Please go to www.fast.splayback.com to complete the fundraiser now. Activate the sign in process even if you don’t have photos or videos uploaded yet. You can upload later, or not at all. Thank you for every effort you make to support NSA and your child’s soccer programming, and have a wonderful, fun-filled summer of soccer!

| | Cold weather doesn't deter this U-10 player. | | | It's time for traveling team coaches and managers to sign up for tournaments for the 2010 season. Registration deadlines are coming up, and the more competitive tournaments tend to fill early.
The Northfield Soccer Association (NSA) subsidizes the majority of the costs of these tournaments.
U-9 to U-14 Teams: The NSA pays for the local DJJD tourney (on June 26 this year) plus $350 for another tournament.
U-15 to U-19 Teams: Your team gets $500.
Don't know which tournament to sign up for? Consult a more experienced coach, or go to the MYSA site for a comprehensive list. Please sign up early!

The rescheduling of home games at Spring Creek fields is a simple process, so long as you plan ahead.
Here are a few reminders to managers and coaches that will help things keep running smoothly:
1) Please send an e-mail to Referee Coordinator Hank Tetreault at
and
(send your message to both addresses!) as soon as you know that you need to reschedule a game – even if you don’t yet know the reschedule date. That allows Hank to cancel the referees who are scheduled to work.
Note that your reschedule request needs to include full details: the number, date, time, opposing team and field of the original game. Also, if possible, send three possible dates and times in your request. No game reschedule is official till you get confirmation from Hank.
2) Once you have confirmed the new date, time and field with the NSA game rescheduler, you must alert the MYSA. This step is new this year! It is the responsibility of the home team to alert the MYSA – even if the opposing team requested the change.
3) Go to www.mnyouthsoccer.org/hellopage1.cfm and log in under “managers,” using your team password. Then go to “reschedule” and click which game you want to reschedule. You’ll be walked through the details. The MYSA will send a requesting e-mail to the opposing team, which has to log in and accept the change. Then the MYSA will send a confirmation e-mail back to you that the requested change was accepted.
PLEASE NOTE: There are exact stipulations for reschedules during the first two weeks of the season. Contact Hank if you have questions.

posted 04/16/2010 The information below was provided to us by a member of the Northfield Hockey Association. They encourage the parents of hockey players to utilize this service to establish a baseline test for each child to assist in the diagnosis of a concussion in the event of a head trauma incident. While concussions may be more common in hockey, soccer players are most certainly at risk. The NSA encourages parents to explore this option if you wish.
I am sending this to you to encourage you to have all of your children who participate in contact sports take a baseline ImPACT test, if you have not already done so. It is offered through Gillette Children’s Hospital Minor Neurotrauma Clinic in St. Paul and costs only $4. It can be taken online from home and takes less than 30 minutes to complete. It is very helpful to have a baseline test if your child gets a concussion. Gillette recommends yearly baseline testing between ages 10-15 years and every two years after age 15.
ImPACT (Immediate Post-Concussion Assessment and Cognitive Testing) is a brain injury measurement tool for children and teens who have sustained a traumatic brain injury (concussion). Through a series of computerized tests, ImPACT identifies subtle changes in brain function, evaluates post-injury condition, and tracks recovery. By comparing baseline (pre-injury) and post-injury test results, ImPACT can help determine the extent of damage following a concussion.
Gillette is the only children’s hospital in Minnesota to be designated a Certified ImPACT Consultant. We use ImPACT, along with evaluation by a Certified Brain Injury Specialist, to help parents, coaches and kids make appropriate return-to-activity decisions. Our goal is to eliminate the risk of recurrent or permanent injuries that may have temporary or permanent health risks.
You can register for and take the test using the following link: http://www.gillettechildrens.org/default.cfm?PID=1.17.4.2.1.8.1.
