This program is the non-traveling soccer program sponsored by the Northfield Soccer Association
(NSA). Registration happens during April. Your child MUST be 5 years old before September 1st and entering kindergarten in September to play. We welcome all players through those 12-years of age (completing 6th grade in June of this year). We’ll play from mid-June through the end of July. Teams will be 6-10 players of the same age and gender. However, 3rd-6th grades may be combined in some mixed aged and/or mixed gender groups as determined by the number of available players. Our goal is to keep single gender teams and we will work for a setup that makes this possible. We play 2 nights of week from 6:30-7:30 or 7:45 (depending on age). The older children will be at the Spring Creek soccer complex while the younger group is at the Sibley Park fields.
· What equipment will my child need?
Each child must have his/her own soccer ball and water bottle for practice and drills. Uniforms will be provided as a part of your registration fees.
· You ask for coaches but I never played soccer and don’t know anything about the game. How will that work?
The only requirement for you to coach is for you to love kids. A majority of our coaches have grown their soccer knowledge alongside their child , progressing year after year. We will have a training session for new coaches and will provide a set of sample drills for you to use. Anyone can do it; we need your help to have your child have fun.
· Get applications in early
In the past, the NSA In-house program has been able to make room for every child who wants to play soccer. However, our program has grown so much during the last couple of years, this may not be possible. Please ensure that you register early. If we do end up in a situation where we can not accommodate every child who wants to play, we will give preference to those whose parents are willing to volunteer and then those who signed up first. · NSA will provide soccer uniforms
We will have our colorful soccer uniforms for your child. Please check appropriate sizes for shirts and shorts. Uniform sizing is accurate/close to standard clothing sizes. We can not do reorders on uniforms marked with the wrong sizing unless you are willing to pay for the reorder plus shipping cost to express mail them directly to your home address.
· Additional coaching information
All NSA volunteers have to sign and give assent to a required MYSA background check to protect your child’s safety and meet MYSA insurance and bonding mandates. There are no exceptions to this mandate. After you are assigned as a coach, we will provide you instructions on how to engage in this process.
