In House Weather Policy
Our policy follows the Minnesota Youth Soccer weather guidelines as listed here:
In general, we will adhere to the following guideline “if you see a lightning bolt and hear the thunder in 30 seconds or less, you must seek shelter and wait 30 minutes before resuming outdoor activity”.
Here are other specifics:
- Your child’s safety is our first concern. If you have any doubts about the weather, please follow your best judgment as to whether they should play on a given night. Such judgement applies to both lightning and extreme heat.
- Minnesota weather is fickle. Rain or lightning at a given time may have little indication of the weather one hour later. Thus, the In House program will never cancel on a given night prior to 30 minutes before the start.
- So, for 2010 with a 6:30 start, do NOT expect any communication in regards to cancellation due to weather prior to 6pm.
- If the weather is such that we cancel a given night prior to its start, we will do so at 6pm. In this event, you can expect the following communication:
- The In House coordinators will email all coaches at 6pm notifying them of cancellation.
- We will use our email list to send an email to all players/parents by 6:05pm.
- We will post a message to http://www.northfieldsoccer.org by 6:10pm.
- Upon receiving their email, we hope our coaches will use their team roster to call their team notifying them of the cancellation.
- Please use the outlined communication channels rather than attempting to contact your In House Coordinators directly.
- If you have not seen weather related communication by 6:15 on a given night, you should assume that soccer is on.
- If at any time while players are on the fields, you hear the Coordinator blow the air horn signaling cancellation of play (or hear direct communication of that nature from them), please leave immediately. Given the recreational nature of play, the mandatory 30-minute wait time, and the mere 60-75 minutes of play, once a weather call is made, soccer is cancelled for the remainder of the evening
- Especially at the Spring Creek complex, do not be confused by other games that may continue playing after the In House program has been cancelled. Other play is governed by the given coach or referee. Please follow the direction of your In House Coordinators.
