Traveling Soccer

ABOUT TRAVELING SOCCER

The Northfield Soccer Club offers traveling teams at U10–U18 for both boys and girls, at various levels of play. The Northfield Soccer Club is part of the Southern Minnesota Soccer League, and our teams travel and host teams from other SMSL clubs. We offer summer (U10–U18) and fall (U10–U14) traveling seasons.

Age groups for team formation are determined by the January–December calendar birth year based on standards set forth by the United States Soccer Federation.

2025 Summer Traveling Season: Registration closes Oct. 15, 2024!

Regular training for the summer 2025 season begins in late April and runs through mid-July. Training nights and game dates vary by team. Teams typically practice 2–3 times per week, beginning in April, weather permitting. Game play begins in early May and continues until sometime in July, depending on how far the team advances. Teams usually play one or two games per week for 10–12 total games per season, plus one to two tournaments per season.

New this year: Teams will have the opportunity to train together more intentionally during the off-season thanks to a fall try-out and more robust winter training program. As noted in a previous email, rosters will be formed following player evaluations in November, and those who participate in winter training will have dedicated team training time. Players do not need to be registered for winter training in order to try out for a summer team.

TRAVELING FEES

  • U10 (2015-2016 birth years) and U12 (2013-2014 birth years): $525
  • U13 and older (2012-2007 birth years): $550

Scholarships are available. Please contact Tammy Seymour at admin@northfieldsoccer.org to learn more or request a scholarship. Scholarship recipients do not have to make any co-payments at the time of registration.

UNIFORMS

Traveling fees do not include uniform costs. All players must own a traveling game uniform kit. The uniform fee ranges from $85 to $110 depending on which items are purchased. Purchasing a goalkeeper kit is optional, and one keeper jersey will be furnished to each team.

NSC partners with Planet Soccer as our uniform vendor.  Traveling players will receive an email to order their uniform from the Planet Soccer on-line store.  For the 2025 summer season, you will be required to order if you are new to traveling soccer.  Returning players may order replacement items, if needed.

Scholarship players are eligible to purchase a uniform at a discounted cost.  More information regarding the process will be sent by email from Tammy, our Club Administrator.

TEAM FORMATION

Teams will be formed following player tryouts in early November. Age groups for team formation are determined by the January-December calendar birth year based on standards set forth by the United States Soccer Federation. View our traveling team formation and tryout policy: English | Español. Every effort will be made to place players who register after the cutoff, but team placement is not guaranteed after Oct. 15.

PAYMENTS & REFUNDS

A $50 deposit is due at the time of registration. The remainder of traveling fees may be paid in full or in three installments, with one-third due on October 31, 2024, one-third due on January 31, 2025, and the remaining balance due on March 31, 2025. You will select your preferred payment schedule at the time of registration. Scholarship recipients do not have to make any copayments at the time of registration. View our refund policy.

SERVICE REQUIREMENT

The Northfield Soccer Club is an almost entirely volunteer-run organization, and the time and talents of many individuals are vital to maintain day-to-day operations. As such, we will again require a minimum of 4 service hours per family per summer season. The fee to opt out of the service requirement is $200 and is in line with other youth sports organizations in Northfield. This can be paid at the time of registration. We will be following up with opportunities to satisfy the service requirement, but we are always in need of team coaches and managers, as well as coordinators for specific activities such as sponsorships, volunteers, and social media.
